2009 Innovation Award Winners
Four ATSSA member companies received this year's ATSSA Innovation Awards during the 39th Annual Convention and Traffic Expo in San Jose, Calif.
First place was taken by Mobile Barriers, LLC of Golden, Colo. for their Mobile Barrier Trailer, the MBT-1, which allows smoother traffic flows and prevents vehicles from entering roadway work zones. The trailer helps increase efficiency and reduces the time and equipment necessary for road repair operations.
Second place honors were a tie between Plastic Safety Systems (PSS), Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, who developed and manufacture the Roadquake Temporary Portable Rumble Strip - which does not require adhesives, epoxies, fasteners or nails for installation. A crew of two can install or remove a set of rumble strips by hand in minutes.
The other second place tie winner was Nucor Steel Marion of Marion, Ohio, who produce the NUGARD Guardrail System. Standard guardrails can be mounted into the company's specially-designed RIBBAK U-Channel steel posts, which allows for smoother, more reliable vehicle redirection after impact.
SAFECO Industries, LLC took third place honors for their "Traff-Alert Internally Illuminated Flagger Paddle," which increases roadway flaggers' visibility, thus reducing the number of potential work zone related injuries or fatalities. The device conforms to federal regulations and is approved for use in all 50 states.
Once again, congratulations to all member companies who participated in San Jose, Calif. ATSSA members look forward to seeing more innovative products and ideas next February in San Antonio, Texas.
