Pam / Thursday, March 19, 2020 / Categories: ATSSA, Legislative Briefing & Fly-In, NWZAW Safer Roads, Legislative Briefing and Fly-In events postponed due to COVID-19 ATSSA has postponed two major events scheduled for this spring in the wake of COVID-19. The Legislative Briefing & Fly-In scheduled for April 22-23 has been delayed by five months to Sept. 9-10. The Safer Roads 2020 International Conference scheduled for May 12-14 in Richmond, Va., has been postponed by six months to November. An exact date will be announced once it is confirmed. In both cases, people already registered for the events will have the registration moved to the new dates. However, if someone needs to cancel, details are available on the respective event page (Fly-In and SaferRoads). Registrants will need to address their other travel arrangements such as hotels and airfare. In addition, Michigan Department of Transportation officials canceled the kickoff event for National Work Zone Awareness Week as a result of health concerns in the wake of the coronavirus. That event was planned for April 21 at the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti. National Work Zone Awareness Week will still take place, however, and we strongly encourage each state and locality to take part by using social media to remind the public to drive carefully in and around work zones. (We are using these hashtags: #NWZAW #SafeWorkZonesForAll #Orange4Safety.) These decisions were made out of concern for the health and safety of attendees after considering the guidance of international, national, state, and local health officials. In the case of the Fly-In, we also recognized that Congress might not be in session for the originally scheduled dates. The Fly-In will still be held at the Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill. Everyone already registered for the April dates will have their registration automatically transferred to the new dates, meaning your participation is guaranteed. Additionally, if you've made a hotel reservation, your hotel room will be canceled without penalty. If you can no longer attend Fly-In due to the date change, please contact our Government Relations Team at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can cancel your scheduled meetings on Capitol Hill. The good news is that registration for the legislative conference continues to be a free-of-charge benefit to ATSSA members. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we address changes needed in light of COVID-19. For both the Fly-In and Safer Roads, additional information will be provided to registrants directly via email and available online at ATSSA.com/Flyin and SaferRoads as it is available. As a reminder, ATSSA Chapter Meetings information is updated as available online. Individual chapters are evaluating meeting plans on an ongoing basis and exploring options for holding meetings via remote links.
