ATSSA’s 2022 Convention & Traffic Expo reunited thousands of roadway safety advocates

ATSSA’s 2022 Convention & Traffic Expo brought together more than 3,200 roadway safety advocates over five days in Tampa, Fla.

They collaborated, networked, learned about the latest innovations and even cheered on their favorite team at the Chairman’s Big Game Watch Party on Sunday evening.

Keynote speaker Scott Moore kept the packed crowd in the Ballroom of the Tampa Convention Center spellbound as he shared leadership and teamwork tips gleaned from his decades leading the elite Navy SEALs on “no fail” missions.

And Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg talked about the USDOT commitment to zero deaths on the nation's roadways while acknowledging that may not be achieved during his tenure but that ATSSA's members are needed to achieve that goal.

It's not too early to start planning now for next  year. The 2023 Convention & Traffic Expo takes place in Phoenix, Feb. 17-21 at the Phoenix Convention Center with the theme of “where roadway safety and Innovation intersect.”

ATSSA announces winners of four national awards

TAMPA, Florida (Feb. 14, 2022) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association is pleased to announce winners of the Chairman’s Award, National Safety Award, National Media Award and Mark of Excellence Award.

The four national awards were presented during ATSSA’s 52nd Annual Convention & Traffic Expo, taking place Feb. 11-15 in Tampa, Fla. The Chairman’s Award and the National Safety Award were announced Feb. 13 and the other two today.

The Chairman’s Award is given at the discretion of the chair of the ATSSA Board of Directors. This is the fourth time someone has been recognized in the 28-year history of the award.

Roadway safety industry reunites at ATSSA’s 2022 Convention & Traffic Expo

ATSSA’s 2022 Convention & Traffic Expo reunites members of the roadway safety infrastructure in Tampa, Florida, for five days of education, innovation, collaboration and inspiration.

We anticipate nearly 3,000 in attendance this year, including more than 150 department of transportation (DOT) officials representing 40 states.

“I’m looking forward to taking part in the first in-person Convention & Traffic Expo of my tenure,” said ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner, who joined the Association in March 2020. “Last year’s virtual event exceeded my expectations but I know for our members nothing can replace the tangible and intangible advantages of gathering in person with other industry experts so I am eager to be part of the experience.”

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 25, 2022) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association  selected 14 companies to participate in its 2022 New Products Rollout (NPRO), held in conjunction with the 52nd Annual Convention & Traffic Expo taking place Feb. 11-15 at the Tampa (Florida) Convention Center.

Each year, more than 3,500 people attend the largest roadway safety tradeshow in North America to see some of the latest innovations in the roadway safety infrastructure industry. The products submitted as part of NPRO are comprised of a wide range of devices designed to save lives on our nation’s roadways.

“The 2022 lineup for ATSSA’s New Products Rollout features products that provide a snapshot of some of the latest advancements made in the past year,” said ATSSA Director of Innovation & Technical Services Eric Perry. “I love this event because it provides a great opportunity to hear firsthand from our members about the latest and greatest products coming to the marketplace as well as the benefits of using them.”

Nominations now open for Mark of Excellence Award

Award recognizes outstanding efforts in advancing roadway safety through pavement markings

Nominations are now open for ATSSA’s 2021 Mark of Excellence Award, one of four national awards traditionally announced at the Association’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo.

The Mark of Excellence Award recognizes an ATSSA member who has shown professional integrity, dedication, involvement and outstanding performance in the advancement of roadway safety infrastructure through improved pavement markings.

Nominations come from members of the Pavement Marking Division and the Manufacturers & Suppliers Division. The deadline to submit nominations is Nov. 13.

ATSSA’s 52nd Annual Convention & Traffic Expo reunites roadway safety industry experts in Tampa, Fla., Feb. 11-15.

The five-day event is in person and features all of the popular activities of years past including the ATSS Foundation golf and sporting clays events plus dozens of opportunities to hear from industry experts, check out the latest innovations in roadway safety, explore a nearly 200,000-square-foot Expo floor and enjoy in-person networking both informally and through special events for groups such as Young Industry Professionals.

Plus, for the first time, the Expo will include outdoor demonstrations and vehicle displays.

Nominations open today for the National Safety Award with ATSSA’s other annual awards opening for nominations soon.

The National Safety Award recognizes an employee or recent retiree of a government agency who made a significant contribution to the safety of our nation’s roadways. Nomination forms are due by Aug. 1.

Wanted: Students with creative minds to tackle a traffic safety challenge

Traffic Control Device Student Challenge returns after pandemic pause

ATSSA and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Traffic Control Devices invite students to compete in the 2022 Traffic Control Device (TCD) Student Challenge.

The contest returns after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are challenged to come up with “Innovative Traffic Control Device Strategies for Speed Management on Limited Access Freeways.”

The TCD Student Challenge promotes innovation and stimulates ideas in the traffic control devices industry with a goal to improve operations and safety and encourage future generations of roadway safety professionals. As part of the challenge, individuals or student teams submit solutions in the subject area of transportation and roadway safety based on the topic for the year.

ATSSA’s 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo just wrapped up eight days filled with industry information and plentiful opportunities to interact with experts and innovators in the roadway safety industry.

The fully online event drew attendance from every state in the U.S. and Washington, D.C., plus an international contingent representing Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Spain and the United Kingdom. In addition, department of transportation (DOT) officials taking part represented 43 states, Washington, D.C., Canada and Spain.

People who registered for the event have until April 9 to watch all of the sessions again or see anything they missed. Anyone who was unable to attend over the past two weeks can register now to see all of the sessions, visit exhibits and earn continuing education credits.
