In Copenhagen, Denmark during the 2018 ITS World Congress, a tour showed participants how cyclists on electric bicycles were provided with dynamic information based on real-time sensor data via Variable Message Signs (VMS).

ATSSA participated in the Task Force 13 (TF13) 2018 Fall Meeting, where one key initiative—to form a nonprofit entity to conduct business and interact with other roadway safety organizations—was addressed.

ATSSA recently co-moderated a session entitled, “Infrastructure Readiness, Reading the Road Ahead,” that addressed the ways in which U.S. infrastructure will  best accommodate Connected Automated Vehicles (CAVs) during the 2018 Automated Vehicle Symposium.

ATSSA is vocalizing member needs and concerns by participating in a series of meetings and workshops designed to open discussion between stakeholders within the transportation industry on key issues and challenges related to highway automation. 

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced the innovations selected for the Every Day Counts (EDC)-5 “On-Ramp to Innovation” program.

“Preparing Infrastructure for Automation Levels 1-3” will examine areas within roadway infrastructure that will be affected with the emergence of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs).

Rob Dingess, president of the Mercer Strategic Alliance, came to ATSSA headquarters to discuss automated and connected vehicle technology, and what it means for the association and the future of the roadway safety industry.

In a memorandum released on March 20, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) issued “Interim Approval (IA)-21 – Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at Crosswalks.”
