It’s not too late to catch ATSSA’s first virtual Town Hall on the state and federal response to COVID-19 and potential infrastructure investments. A recording is now available of Tuesday’s one-hour session featuring Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon. 

The virtual Town Hall is a new feature for members. The next topic is "Innovations in Online Training to Keep Your Employees Engaged" and will be held Aprtil 28 at 2 p.m.

Incoming ATSSA President and CEO Stacy Tetschner visited our headquarters this morning for his first meeting with the Association’s staff. Outgoing President and CEO Roger Wentz, who retires at the end of this month, and Board Chair Greg Driskell introduced Tetschner to the group during a breakfast meeting after which Tetschner shared a bit about his vision for the Association.

ATSSA Board Chair Greg Driskell, pictured in center, Past Chair Juan Arvizu, left, and Government Relations Vice President Nathan Smith were in Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 16  for the “Moving America Forward” presidential candidate forum aimed at raising the profile of the nation’s infrastructure needs. United for Infrastructure organized the program with groups that build, maintain, operate, and administer America’s infrastructure systems hosting it.

The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) needs an update, and ATSSA is playing a major role in the process. The current edition of the roadway safety infrastructure industry’s guide to keeping drivers and roadway workers safe was published in 2009.

A recent report from TRIP, titled “Rural Connections: Challenges and Opportunities in America’s Heartland,” echoes ATSSA’s message on the need for investment in roadway safety infrastructure on our rural roadways.

Last month, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Virginia Division Administrator Craig Feister spoke at ATSSA headquarters in Fredericksburg, Virginia about the main objectives of the administration and the agency’s areas of focus. 

At the heart of ATSSA are dedicated members in the roadway safety infrastructure industry that tirelessly to advance the association’s mission of roadway safety and moving Toward Zero Deaths on our nation’s roadways. ATSSA’s board of directors help set the tone for the strategic objectives and efforts to collectively lead the association in addressing critical issues within the roadway safety infrastructure industry.

California drivers are losing $61 billion annually on the state’s roadways, according to a recent report from TRIP, a national transportation research group.

A press conference held last week by the Georgia Transportation Alliance and TRIP, a national transportation research group, highlighted the need for increased transportation funding to improve roadways and enhance safety.
