AASHTO announces new MASH-compliant devices with federal-aid eligibility letters

Most providers on the list are ATSSA members

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) notified ATSSA today of several new devices that recently received federal-aid eligibility letters from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The devices, which are compliant with the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH), are listed below. The majority on the list are offered by ATSSA member companies.

The devices are also listed online along with FHWA letters that provide information about crash tests that were conducted.

The FHWA letters note that new roadside safety devices eligible for federal-aid funding should meet the crash test and evaluation criteria contained in MASH and that the federal government does not regulate the manufacture of roadway safety devices.

AASHTO Director of Engineering Jim McDonnell noted in his communication with ATSSA that a federal-aid eligibility letter is not required for a roadside safety hardware device to be eligible for federal-aid reimbursement. Devices that have been tested to MASH crash-testing guidelines are also available on a searchable format on the Roadside Safety Pooled Fund website.

FHWA does ongoing reviews of crash test reports and posts eligibility letters as available to the site under “Hardware Eligibility Letters.”

Below is a list of devices and the manufacturer or organization that submitted the device for review. ATSSA members are listed in teal.
