(January 16, 2019) – The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation makes summer camp possible for children who have lost a parent, sibling, or caregiver to a roadway work zone incidents. The Foundation provides support to the loved ones of those impacted by work zone crashes through several programs, including scholarships like the Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship and the Experience Camps Travel Scholarship. The Experience Camps Travel Scholarship covers the traveling expenses for a child who has lost a loved one to attend an Experience Camp, to enable healing and help the child cope with the loss. Experience Camps are one-week camps held across the country each summer, providing an opportunity for children to work through the grief of losing a loved one in a safe space among other children going through a similar situation. “The camps themselves are free for all accepted campers, but the travel costs are not covered, and that is where The Foundation comes in to help these children attend,” said The Foundation President David Krahulec. Families are encouraged to apply for the 2019 scholarships available by July 1, 2019.
