Applications for Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarships, which provide financial assistance up to $10,000 for the 2021-22 academic year for post-secondary education, are due by Feb. 15. Roadway Worker Memorial scholarships are competitive and awarded annually to help put family members on the road to a brilliant future. Applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism may be eligible for an additional $1,000 in honor of Chuck Bailey, a member of the roadway safety industry who died in 2002. The ATSS Foundation awarded 14 Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarships and three Chuck Bailey Memorial Scholarships to college and university students around the country for the 2020-21 academic year. Hear from scholarship recipients about the impact the Foundation and its scholarships had on their lives. As part of The Foundation’s mission to support the loved ones of those impacted by work zone incidents, the nonprofit’s scholarship programs help offer help toward healing as well as educational opportunities. Foundation Chair David Krahulec of Horizon Signal Technologies Inc. in Reading, Pa., said he looks forward to the day when there is no longer a need for Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarships because work zone crashes no longer occur. “When I think about the ATSS Foundation’s Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program, I am often overwhelmed by the both the gratitude of the scholarship recipients and the generosity of ATSSA members who support this program,” Krahulec said. “I would encourage everyone who supports the work of the Foundation or is interested in work zone safety to hear directly from our scholarship recipients through their comments and videos on our website.” The Foundation is the charitable arm of ATSSA. It was formed in 1988 with the core purpose to promote roadway safety through charitable giving and public awareness programs. Donations can be made at Foundation.ATSSA.com/Donate.
