Her mother was left on her own to raise Cameron, her younger sister and a third child on the way. A dozen years later, when Cameron sought to become the first one in her extended family to get a college degree, the dream might have been out of reach if it hadn’t been for the Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship offered by The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation. The program offers academic scholarships for post-high school education to dependents of workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway work zones. The Foundation has been impacting lives through the Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program since 2002. Christopher Hutt was installing a speed limit sign when two cars crashed in his work zone and struck him on April 18, 2006. Today, Cameron is well on her way to getting a degree because her late father’s employer told her family about the scholarship program. A pandemic doesn’t stop the needs and dreams of students like Cameron. “If it weren’t for The Foundation and donors’ generosity, I might not have been able to attend the University of Tennessee, which is a place … I’ve fallen in love with and it’s given me the education I need to be successful,” Cameron said. Donations to The ATSS Foundation can be made online, by mail, or by phone.
