Buttigieg nomination for transportation secretary passes committee vote

UPDATE: Full Senate expected to consider the nomination Tuesday at noon.

UPDATE: The full Senate is expected to consider Buttigieg's nomination Tuesday at noon.

The nomination of former South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg to serve as Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration received a vote today in the Senate Commerce Committee, in which the committee voted 21-3 to confirm the nomination.

The committee held a hearing on the nomination on Jan. 21. The nomination now moves on to the full Senate to receive a final vote on whether to confirm the nomination.

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-MS) commented on the passage of the nomination out of the committee.

“I look forward to seeing Pete Buttigieg confirmed by the full Senate and working with him in his new role as Secretary of Transportation," Wicker said. "Transportation issues historically have been addressed on a bipartisan basis, and I expect to continue that practice with Mr. Buttigieg.”

ATSSA will provide an update when the nomination reaches the Senate floor for a vote.
