Recording available from ATSSA Town Hall on government’s COVID-19 response & infrastructure funding

Registration open for next Town Hall addressing innovations in ATSSA’s online training

It’s not too late to catch ATSSA’s first virtual Town Hall on the state and federal response to COVID-19 and potential infrastructure investments. A recording is now available of Tuesday’s one-hour session featuring Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon. ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner introduced the segment with ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith serving as moderator.

The virtual Town Hall is a new feature for members. The next topic is "Innovations in Online Training to Keep Your Employees Engaged" and will be held April 28 at 2 p.m. Registration is now open.

As Tetschner said during Tuesday’s Town Hall, members are welcome to submit ideas for topics they would like to see addressed in future Town Halls. Ideas can be sent to him at NewGuy@atssa.com.

Boyle said he’s not hopeful of infrastructure funding in the next phase of congressional funding (phase 4) in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic but was hopeful it could come in the round after that. He also shared that he has been studying the Spanish flu of 1918 - the last pandemic to devastate the country - to see which cities and states were the most successful in shutting down and rebounding afterward.

Tymon said the transportation industry and public agencies are struggling with a variety of issues such as funding struggles as gas tax revenues dropping as people stay home. He also said departments of transportation nationwide are sharing ideas for how to keep people safe while keeping them on the job.
