It’s not too late to submit your proposals to lead education sessions for the 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo scheduled for San Diego from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. ATSSA has extended the deadline to July 9 to allow more time for industry experts to provide their insights and expertise during this annual event, which is confirmed for 2021.

Sessions that can be conducted virtually or pre-recorded are of particular interest as well as topics that address how you dealt with the challenges and opportunities presented by the pandemic.

ATSSA seeks your proposals to lead educational sessions for the 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo scheduled for San Diego from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. The event may have some new twists in 2021 due to the global pandemic but it’s still on and applications to present your industry insights and expertise are now available. Applications are now open for proposals and due by June 25.

“We are excited to see what topics and ideas the industry will bring forward with this Call for Proposals,” said ATSSA Training Program Manager Jessica Scheyder. “Sessions that can be conducted virtually or pre-recorded will be of particular interest, as well as sessions that address the obstacles and opportunities related to the current pandemic environment.”

If you couldn’t tune in yesterday, you can now watch ATSSA’s second Town Hall in which we heard from ATSSA staff, a master instructor and two members who have been using the online training resources.

“Innovations in Online Training to Keep Your Employees Engaged" covered the many options ATSSA now offers for training and the changes implemented to meet members’ needs after social distancing guidelines and travel restrictions related to COVID-19 limited the opportunity for in-person classes.

With restrictions imposed by the government for social distancing, ATSSA has quickly responded with two new options to enable members to continue meeting their training needs.

ATSSA now offers virtual training for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses. In addition, The Association launched a new online workplace training curriculum that is offered totally online and covers human resources and workplace safety topics.

In response to government guidelines requesting social distancing, ATSSA is now offering virtual training for two of its classroom courses.

Virtual training is now offered for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses, with the first one scheduled for April 13. ATSSA has adjusted both courses to meet the needs of individual states.

If you weren’t able to attend the 50th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo or haven’t mastered the art of being in two places at once, you missed some great presentations by experts in the roadway safety field. The great news is, you can find out what you missed during the convention’s concurrent education sessions!

Recordings of the education sessions are now online and available for free. In addition, materials provided by the presenters are posted there as well.

Work Zone Safety Grant funding results in training thousands

National work zone statistics for fatalities demonstrate a critical need for training roadway safety workers. From 2016 to 2017, fatalities in work zones increased from 782 to 799 – a 2 percent increase, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) website.
