Upcoming and Recorded Town Hall Meetings

4/5/22 – Economic Impact of Infrastructure Package on ATSSA Member Companies Participants will learn about how the recently passed infrastructure package (Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act or IIJA) will economically impact your business and when you can expect to see the safety funding increases at the state and local level. Watch the recording.

11/18/21 – Congress Passes Infrastructure Package: What does it mean for ATSSA members and for safety? Learn what the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is, what it means for ATSSA members and its impact on safety for the next five years. Watch the recording.

10/7/21 – Stakeholder Engagement Meeting to Discuss the LED Flicker Rate Safety Issue. Automated vehicle perception devices (i.e., cameras, sensors and image processing software) are crucial components for the operation of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs); they enable automated vehicles to read the road environment and detect potential obstacles on the travel way. The application of an appropriate "LED flicker rate," also known as the refresh rate, in road infrastructure equipped with LED affects the accurate and precise readability of the road environment and infrastructure by CAVs. The harmonization of flicker rate requirements in infrastructure lighting devices is an avenue that is being explored to addressing the flicker rate issue. Experts suggest that flicker rates greater than 200 HZ may be a good starting solution to tackle this issue. This recommendation was also included in the proposed Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) includes new provisions for Automated Vehicles. Speakers: Brian Deegan with Valeo Vision Systems, team leader of the IEEE P2020 Automotive Image Quality Working Group, LED Flicker Subgroup; Robin Jenkin, Principal Image Quality Engineer at NVIDIA. Access the agenda. Watch the recording.

7/12/21 – Safety Issues: Flicker Rates with Display Boards and Traffic Control Devices. The proposed Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) includes new provisions for Automated Vehicles. One of those relates to how cameras see LEDs used in traffic control devices. In this webinar, “LED flicker” will be described from the perspective of forward-looking vehicle cameras used to provide active safety features as well as automated vehicle features. Learn more from experts in the industry about potential safety and readability issues as it relates to the flicker rate of display boards and traffic control devices. Hear about LED flicker root cause and impacts and enjoy an introduction to IEEE P2020 Camera Image Quality Working Group. Speakers: Brian Deegan with Valeo Vision Systems, team leader of the IEEE P2020 Automotive Image Quality Working Group, LED Flicker Subgroup; Robin Jenkin, Principal Image Quality Engineer at NVIDIA. Watch the recording.

11/17/20 – Election Update & 2021 Impact on Roadway Safety. This live online session will address the impact of the state and federal elections on roadway safety. The outcomes of both races will have an impact on roadway safety policies and priorities for years to come, including the crucial question of how our nation continues to respond to COVID-19. ATSSA will share a post-election recap of the results and analysis. Speaker: ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith. Watch the recording.

6/16/20 – INVEST in America Act: An Inside Look at the Highway Bill. Hear about how the proposed bill, Investing in a New Vision for the Environment of Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act, will reauthorize the federal transportation program through Fiscal Year 2025 and benefit the roadway safety infrastructure industry. Panelists: ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), who serves as the Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chair and an author of the bill. Watch the recording.
