(Feb. 18, 2021) – Two exhibitors at ATSSA’s 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo received Innovation Awards today in recognition of new products created by their companies that contribute to the industry’s mission of advancing roadway safety and working Toward Zero Deaths. The new products from 2020 were evaluated by a panel of judges made up of Department of Transportation personnel. Judges reviewed nine items from companies across the country as part of the New Products Rollout. A product called +Lightline, which synchronizes with traffic lights at crosswalks to provide additional awareness for pedestrians, was chosen as the top new product. It was presented by Sales Solutions Inc., of Martinsburg, W.Va. A Work Zone Speed Control System that identifies speeding vehicles approaching work zones and presents them with a red signal before entering the work zone was chosen as runner up from among the items selected for review. That item was presented by Horizon Signal of Reading, Pa. The winner and runner up were honored today during ATSSA’s Circle of Innovation where videos explaining their products were shown to the roadway safety infrastructure industry. Items were evaluated on the criteria of lifesaving qualities, degree of need, innovation, design and eligibility under the Highway Safety Improvement Program. ATSSA’s 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo was held online and ran over two weeks, from Feb. 8 through today. “The New Product Rollout provides the opportunity for people across the industry to see the products that were released in 2020 that provide creative solutions produced to further roadway safety,” said Eric Perry, ATSSA’s Director of Innovation & Technical Services. “The judges found these products offered valuable advances in the mission to eliminate roadway deaths.” The ATSSA Innovation Awards are held annually as part of the Association’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo. “Roadway safety innovators are essential to ensuring the safety of motorists on our nation’s roads,” Perry said. “ATSSA’s annual Convention and Traffic Expo provides a prime opportunity to showcase the latest roadway safety products introduced nationwide. The Innovation Awards recognize outstanding efforts by the industry to advance roadway safety and, hopefully, save lives.” For more information about next year’s event, email Perry at eric.perry@atssa.com.
