ATSSA launches new leadership program in August

Apply now for ATSSA Roadway Safety Leadership Academy

ATSSA is launching a new, nine-month leadership program to equip roadway safety members to take key positions within their companies and the industry.

The ATSSA Roadway Safety Leadership Academy is an eight-part program split evenly between in-person and online sessions. It will be held once a month starting in August—except in December—and will conclude with graduation during next year’s Legislative Briefing & Fly-In, set for April 14-15.

Applications for the program are due by May 15 with only 25 slots available.

ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner encouraged businesses to look around their companies for candidates and for ATSSA members who are interested to apply.

“It is not an orientation to the roadway safety industry program,” Tetschner said. “It is really developing the next generation of leaders of ATSSA.”

ATSSA offered a leadership program before Tetschner arrived five years ago. The reimagined program is being launched at the urging of ATSSA members.

The new format offers participants skills enhancement through sessions led by industry experts from several arenas. This includes a session devoted to understanding personality strengths, another on strategic planning, another on leadership stages, one on networking, one on media and presentation skills and one on developing a personal brand and communication style.

Participants will also develop industry knowledge through sessions on topics such as evolving innovations in roadway safety, risk mitigation, how to bring new products to market, understanding the role of crash testing, working with departments of transportation (DOTs) and the role of ATSSA chapters in building relationships with DOTs.

Information also will be shared about the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the role of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD).

Program participants will grow in their understanding of ATSSA through participation in this year’s Midyear Meeting, Aug. 19-22 – the starting point of the program. They will hold another meeting in conjunction with ATSSA’s 2026 Annual Convention & Traffic Expo in February and conclude with participation in the 2026 Legislative Briefing & Flying where they will learn ATSSA policy priorities and engage in advocacy.

Space is limited so applications should be submitted soon but no later than May 15.
