ATSSA submits letter in support of DOT Secretary nominee Duffy

ATSSA submitted a letter to Congress in support of former Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy to serve as U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

Duffy appeared today before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation as the first step in the confirmation process.

“Mr. Duffy has demonstrated a long history of expertise, passion and dedication to public service. He has highlighted these qualities throughout his career on Capitol Hill, and we are excited by his nomination,” ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner said in the letter to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who chairs the committee, and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Washington, who is ranking member.

“Mr. Duffy’s commitment to finding bipartisan solutions and working with both public and private sector stakeholders will be a great asset for the Department of Transportation (USDOT) as they continue to advance roadway safety policies and investments.”

During the hearing, Duffy opened his testimony by highlighting the importance of roadway safety specifically, saying, “Safety is paramount. Every year, 40,000 lives are lost in roadway accidents. This hits close to home. My wife survived a deadly head-on car crash, which profoundly shaped her life. If confirmed, I will prioritize road safety, ensuring lives and families aren’t forever changed by preventable accidents.”

Tetschner added that the Association looks forward to working with Duffy “and continuing its strong partnership with the USDOT to address critical transportation safety challenges.”

Tetschner urged the committee to forward Duffy’s nomination to the full Senate for consideration.

“The USDOT needs Mr. Duffy’s leadership to make further progress in improving transportation safety for the traveling public,” he said.
