ATSSA’s “Quality Guidelines for Temporary Traffic Control Devices and Features” is a 3.75 x 8.5″ pocket-size handbook that helps contractors and agency personnel determine when a traffic control device has outlived its usefulness. Color photos and/or written descriptions of work zone devices illustrate three levels of device condition: acceptable, marginal and unacceptable. These standards have been developed in an effort to offset the deterioration in appearance of work zone devices. This will minimize agency involvement and reduce costs related to on-site replacement. The devices described include signs, barricades, drums, cones, tubes, warning lights, arrow panels, changeable message signs, pavement markings and markers.
